Gateshead Car Park
Trinity Square, the official name, was a car park and shopping centre designed by Owen Luder, a exponent of the 60's Brutalist architecture movement.
The car park was famous for being an iconic Brutalist statement and for appearing in the Michael Caine film, Get Carter.
To the people of the area it was either a blot on the landscape, hated for its design and crumbling decay (thought this was down to bad maintenance management and a council decision to use inferior concrete during the construction rather than any inherent weakness of its design) or an icon of popular culture and 60's design.
I personally loved it, the design, statement and its prevalence in the Get Carter film, one of my favourite films.
These photos, of the car park itself and some views from it of the surrounding city, were all shot on expired film in a Lomo Action Sampler, the scans are taken from negative not prints and have not been processed in any way. If you have ant interest or comments to make please use the contact form.
